Come for a day of fun and exploration into the verbal and non-verbal Habits that tie us in knots and prevent our inner selves from shinning through. With practice, and awareness,  we can learn new ways of functioning and responding to the incessant barrage of stimuli that daily comes our way.  We do not have to shrink under our burdens, accumulating layers of stress until we reach our breaking points.  By acquiring simple language habits, and incorporating gentle approaches to gravity and breathing, we can learn how to have stress free days.

Jeff Mordkowitz, Director of the Institute of General Semantics and President of The SevenSimpleSteps(tm) Way, came to his approach through a life-time of learning, beginning with a Computer Science degree from Stony Brook University where he also taught Karate as a black belt instructor (since retired). His education continued with studies at the Institute of General Semantics and through the ongoing practice of Sensory Awareness. He earned his business acumen by decades-long service to the financial services industry as a Project Manager and Programmer, with Citibank and most recently with JPMorganChase. Jeff received formal coach training from Coach University.

Money, an Energy Force in Our Lives, in Society:
How We Can Create a Positive Force Field

Money can be a challenging stressor in our lives.  How can we learn to deal with this stressor in new ways and in fact garner joy and satisfaction from what is a core issue for each of us.  There are no easy answers, but there are new perspectives to consider and we will share a few of those in a dialogue about money.

Mary B. Davidson, member of FIONS and former FIONS Board member, is a Vice President at The Bank of new York (the oldest bank in the U.S., the first bank to lend money to our federal government in 1777 and still waiting for the final payment on that loan!), this year marking her 25th year at the Bank.  Mary is in the Person Asset Management division managing stock and bond portfolios for individuals.  After several years in this business, Mary came to understand that buying the right stocks and bonds for a client's portfolio is only one small part of the daily work being available as counselor, spiritual guide and "psychologist" for her clients is a central focus of her work and guiding them through the shoals and quicksand of the myriad issues that all of us, whether one has $50 or $50 million dollars in the bank, experience with "money" is a major part of her job description.

Edgar Mitchell, the sixth man to walk o the moon, founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences in 1973 to study mind, consciousness, and ways of knowing.  Members in New York City founded FIONS in 1988 to collaborate with IONS and explore the many ways "consciousness" governs every aspect of life. FIONS offers its members, and the public, talks, workshops, courses, and informal discussion groups to bring together science and spirit through dialogue and practice.

The Institute of General Semantics

PRESENTS

THE TWELFTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON GENERAL SEMANTICS

CONFRONTING THE CHALLENGES OF CONFLICTING WORLD VIEWS

October 31 - November 2, 2003

AT THE ORLEANS HOTEL & CASINO, LAS VEGAS

Co-Sponsored by

THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR GENERAL SEMANTICS
AND THE NEW YORK SOCIETY OR GENERAL SEMANTICS

OBJECTIVES

Since its establishment in 1938, the Institute of General Semantics has convened International Conferences to examine critical issues facing our society.  This conference is no exception.  With Confronting the Challenges of Conflicting World Views, we intend to examine the many interactions, sometimes violent and deadly, that take place when individuals and groups from markedly different linguistic, social and cultural environments come together.  We will also welcome discussion on other topics consistent with our mission - the investigation and dissemination to the public of how an understanding of the interactions between our language, our behavior and our human nervous system can contribute fundamentally to our well-being.

THEMES

¤  Beliefs, Belief Systems, and their Consequences.
What constitutes a "system of beliefs"?  Do standards exist for evaluating different belief systems?  Can holders of competing belief systems mutually co-exist and/or cooperate with modern science and technology for the benefit of humankind?

¤  Interpersonal to Interplanetary Relationships.
How do our underlying world views affect our relationships with others and with our environment?  How do individuals within one group get along with individuals of competing groups?

¤  Actions for Changing and Adapting.
What programs or initiatives have you or your organization undertaken to meet the challenges posed by different belief systems?  What actions for change do you recommend for ibdividuals and/or governments within this environment of multiple and competing world views?

¤  Time-binding and General Semantics.
What new theories, applications or insights have been formulated or developed? What ought we be doing so that future generations can build on our efforts - instead of having to repair the damage?
